I haven’t been on the forums in ages but removing the music libraries and continue watching is the dumbest most unhelpful thing imaginable. my friend who got me into plex during the pandemic already moved to jellyfin, I don’t really want to redo my setup but if the most basic and important features of watching ongoing shows and listening to my music library of over 30 yrs is gone yall are cooked. get whoever did this demoted or fired, I can’t believe how useless the tv app is now, UI/UX get a 0/10 rating from being my favorite app over the past 5 yrs.
Are you using the new Fire TV Stick 4K Select by chance? It’s the only version that’s gotten the new experience app as far as I know.
Nope I’ve had the same fire stick plugged into my receiver for probably 6 yrs now, it only just updated two nights ago, had to do some comparison testing with my plex desktop app on my pc and my tv upstairs, which hasn’t updated the plex app yet and it still has all the old features that any paying member of plex would expect from the libraries. again so freaking disappointed this is the direction the app is going, if it’s not resolved I’ll have to switch too
Can you find out the version number of the Plex app on your Fire Stick?
Interesting. They haven’t even released an Android TV/Google TV beta yet. It’s possible that they stealth-released the new experience on Fire TV, but it seems odd that it would hit there before Android.
I agree with @Lazarus_Long, it would be great to know what version your Fire TV Plex app is.
I imagine there would be a category 5 poop-storm if this were widespread, though.
upstairs working one: 10.30.5.4094; 3rd gen fire stick ps7706/5106
downstairs one with no continue watching/music library: also 10.30.5.4094; fire tv 4k is ns6711/5879
At least with your Fire devices you have the option to disable automatic updates, unlike the poor Roku folks. And its fairly easy to reinstall an older version of the client if you so choose. Most of my devices I haven’t frozen, but my phone and my main living room Fire Stick I have… I’m still rocking 8.5.2.20133 in my living room.
true but no one should have this big of a function degradation with no options. if they want to rework the UI it should be additive not reductive in features and library access. If it’s not changed I’ll definitely swap, losing continue watching and music is a red line I will not abide
As a programmer, I understand simplifying an application when you’re moving to a completely different code base. It makes it easier to track down bugs. But… Normally I wouldn’t release such a barebones product for production. But, I don’t have investors to placate, either.
But, I do agree that losing continue watching is the worst part for me. Unfortunately, there really aren’t any other options. Jellyfin and Emby have it, after a fashion… but Jellyfin’s is wonky and not available on most clients. Emby’s requires a third party add in for Chrome… I hate watching movies on small screens.
If they are both using the same version the issue you are having is not due to any app update, and there has been no change in the app interface. 10.30.5.4094 has been out for over a month now. I’m using the same version and it is not the New Experience interface.
What basic troubleshooting have you done so far? Have you rebooted the Fire Stick, or tried clearing data and reauthorizing the app?
