It’s been 20 days since the new firetv app announcement. Has anyone got it yet?
“Over the period of a few weeks, starting next week, Plex will be slowly rolling out an updated version of the Amazon Fire TV application”
Does slowly mean 52 weeks?
Saw that "Yes! Let’s go! Hasn’t hit my devices yet but at least its rolling out. Been using a temporary Roku for the new app experience but ready to go back to my device of choice Fire TV Cube.
I got it. You should be happy if you don’t have it yet. It’s unusable on Fire TV. Slow, tedious, and annoying.
We will see. If it’s the same as the Roku version then it’s fine.
So in other words, its The New Experience. ![]()
It’s awful
And yet, they continue to ignore us and dig their heels deeper in the sand
I keep getting error occured not enough space to convert this item. Transcoding works fine, just refuses to play files bigger than 10gb.
Its gotten worse since this morning. Now i cant even back out of shows without restarting the fire stick.
■■■■ this trash ass new version and ■■■■ whoever approved this ■■■■.
Can you point me to where I can learn about this side loading/old version?
Just look up how to install Kodi on a Fire Stick. Same process, just using the Plex app apk. You do NOT need ADB debugging access for this, despite many walkthroughs using that
Got it yesterday, it’s horrid
I got it today. It is beyond TERRIBLE. Navigation is an order of magnitude harder. I am lost for words how that think it is an improvement. They have created media navigation utterly devoid of logic.
PLEASE give us back the left hand vertical navigation panel !
THE NEW APP IS ABSOLUUUUUTE CRAP
The ONLY thing somewhat bareable is the thumbnail layout EVERY other aspect is crap
Setting bugged and have to exit app each time
Constantly freezing
No previous or skip to next button when watching
Whole app is now slow and buggy
Have they not heard of testing before rollout?
Not to mention the whole Plex pass thing which doesn’t bother me because I have it but I understand from their perspective I guess
Trust me you do not want the new experience on the Fire Stick 4K Max. It basically forced itself on me the other day and it is god awful. When you try to go into the menus you get stuck in the menu and unable to exit back to the normal interface. I don’t have a fantastic setup I just have a relatively current receiver with 5.1 surround sound speakers and the standard pass through settings have always worked for me in the past. I tried to watch a movie I have watched a million times before and when the extremely slow interface finally allowed me to press play there was no audio. That is to say it still showed the audio track it just wouldn’t pass it over to the receiver for decoding. In the past you could just for it to transcode the file on the fly but this was a 4K file and the transcoding options caped out at 1080p which is ridiculous. Luckily I was able to uninstall and disable auto updates and get back to the previous version of the application. The new version is completely worthless and if I just never update the application again I guess that will be a solution until they try and force the issue.
I literally have no idea what I can do to make the New Experience work properly but given the three days of pain I endured I’m not in a hurry to ever update that app again.
I hate the the new Fire Tv app. harder to navigate and the playback is buggy. I use Plex to record and watch over the air TV. The fast forward and rewind are laggy and I think may take more time for the play to resume then the part I am trying to FF through. At the end of a half hour news show they stop to function. If you are recording and click on it in the guide, it starts from the beginning by default. That would be OK it you could use the FF in the timeline bar without the app crashing. Is there a way to use the old app?
My wife and I are having a heck of a time with the new app on our Fire TV Stick 4k Max(s). My wife watches live TV from our HDHomeRun thru PLEX and the guide comes up many hours behind. She has to go out and come back in to get the clock to catch up. I mostly watch DVR and the old app showed the oldest unwatched recording on the DVR 1st regardless of the series (show). Now I cannot get that view. I used DVR > Unwatched > Episodes > By Date Added (oldest 1st). I can get it using the web UI but now it won’t stay on Unwatched once I select “By Date Added”, I have to go back and reselect unwatched from the drop down. I also notice the episodes are not being deleted 1 day after being watched as I had it set.
I agree the new “look” is nice but it takes way too many clicks to watch live or DVR. The UI doesn’t remember where you left off in the menu the last time you used the device (TV), we have 5.
