Folder View - Artwork

Hey guys… when I use Plex in “By Folder” View all I see is generic images of folders. When I select “All” I see the posters. Any ideas?

And while we are on the topic… why do I see 71 items under Folder View and 72 items under All?

Maybe you have 2 movies within one folder?

You have two copies of deliverance creek. Notice the number 2 on your screenshot.

That is a legacy of Windows. When you had a folder in Windows and you put a folder.jpg into it, Windows Explorer would show the folder icon emblazed with the folder.jpg picture on top of it.

Thus, many a media collection used then folder.jpg files to show cover pictures and posters on the folder icons. Plex tries to be smart and use these folder.jpg as poster and album covers.
Many media players before Plex did the same.

I sure wish I could add artwork to folders too… I use the regular view for most of my media but I have one library of “Other Videos” that aren’t on TheTVDB or IMDB. Would be nice if I could add an image to the different folders in that view.

I would love to have this feature as well. I also have a ‘Other Videos’ library sorted by folders.

You could also use collections, which you can edit the poster for. Just a suggestion.

Why does Plex continue to add features and NOT add support for folder art. XBMC and KODI have had this feature since day one. PLEASE PLEASE PLEASE just recognize the folder.jpg image as the folder art. How hard can this be?

Ready for this to happen too. I don’t understand why it hasn’t been made available. Perhaps folder view isn’t the method intended by the developers, but some of us have found out of the box ways to make it useful. Throw us a bone.
