Folder view - Recently added folders showing as empty

Hi,

Really confused by this and I’ve tried searching but not found a solution. My Plex server is installed on my Nvidia Shield with an external hard drive connected to the Shield with all my media on. Up until a month or so ago, I had no issues with Plex up my media when it was added to the hard drive but recently, when I’ve run the ‘Scan Library Files’ function, it is not picking up anything new. I’ve gone into Folder view and the folders for the new additions are visible, but when I click into the folder, it says it is an Empty Folder, but if I connect the hard drive to my pc, I can see that the content is in there.

The one thing that may have changed at around the same time this issue started is that I am sharing my library with another user so could the two things be linked?

Hopefully I’ve provided enough detail but please let me know if more information is required.

Any advice / assistance gratefully received, thanks

Those two things seem unrelated (friend vs. empty folders).
Have you verified this folder actually contains files that will be recognized by Plex? Plex will ignore certain disc images or files named in accordance with a different library type (e.g. files containing a sXXeYY pattern for tv-shows in a movie type library).

What version of PMS is running on your Shield?

Thanks Tom,

I thought the two were unlikely to be related but just as the timings seemed to coincide, I felt it was worth mentioning.

My Shield is running version 1.19.4.2935.

Thanks

Yeah, tom80H has the answer.

It seems that you need to specify the media’s type (tv show, movie) for it to pull the data. It knows the file is there because you can see it on the server-side, but the connecting device won’t display anything if it’s a TV show and you configured the folder in Plex as a movie and vice versa.

It shouldn’t, but that’s what it does. It also renders “Other video” for some things pretty much useless. IMO, this method should be removed. It’s of no help on the user’s end, even if it’s like that because it’s simply because it’s using separate databases. :man_shrugging:

Sorry, just realised I’d failed to answer the other question.

Yes, I have checked the content of the folders and they are in keeping with the Plex naming conventions for the type of media in the library so I don’t think that can be the issue.

I have just updated the PMS on my Shield which I certainly haven’t done manually for some time (possibly ever) as I guess I’d kind of assumed it was done automatically so I’ll see if that makes a difference and update back.

Updating the version of PMS seems to have sorted it out, and actually found an additional movie I didn’t realise hadn’t already been picked up so I also now have Herbie Goes Bananas to watch as a bonus!

Thanks for you help
