I have a folder on my computer (/Volumes/40TB/Series) and in there are several other folders such as 1899, A Discovery of Witches, ALF, and many more. When using the web player or my Samsung TV, most of the folders display the message “There are no items in this folder” which is not true.
I’ve tried AVI, MKV, and MP4 files to no avail. See screen shot showing web player and a Finder window on my Mac showing the files which do not seem to be “seen” by PLEX. Help?
File names are not great but they are fine. If the 40TB is a USB or network drive then make sure Plex Media Server has permission to access in System settings>Privacy & Security>Full Disk Access and/or Local Network
40TB is a USB drive and it works great for most movies and videos. Can you point me to a log or a database I can view to ensure these files are “discovered” when doing a library update?
You can download the logs in the troubleshooting section of settings. or you can get them in ~/Library/Logs The Plex Media Server.log will have the scanning info ( the ones with numbers are older with number 5 being the oldest
Maybe some basic follow-up question…
The library icon in your opening post indicates this is a movie library, not a tv-show one.
Plex can’t handle mixed library content – content named according to the tv-show naming schema will not be recognized in a movie library and vice versa.
Can you create a new library of type “tv show” and point that to /Volumes/40TB/Series to see if that fixes your issue?
Oh wow, when I made my library called “Series” I chose the icon for movies because I didn’t think it mattered. I thought the icon was purely visual. I deleted my library called Series and made a new one with the “TV Programmes” icon, and while it’s still scanning as I write this, I see success! Gracias!
