Folders in sidebar

I have a ton of libraries, I would like to be able to make virtual folders in the sidebar to reorganize the libraries inside folders in the sidebar.

Plex is designed for ā€˜One Each’:
One Movie Library
One TV Show Library
One Music Library
etc.

Folder View - was an afterthought - when public outcry demanded it.
Plex isn’t designed for that either.

Folders in the sidebar will never happen.

That’s not true… you can have lots of them.
It’s just not designed to have dozens or hundreds.

Let this suggestion go its way and see…

Yup - you can.
Actor Search won’t work across any of them - only in the Library you’re in - along with everything else that doesn’t work in multiple libraries.

Multiple Libraries isn’t in the plan - and for that reason I’ve decided to Abuse Collections instead:

That wasn’t in the plan either, but 10 years waiting for something else to happen - promoted The Mother of All Work-Arounds. <—I get the Genre Separations I used to get with 28 Libraries - but everything is now in One Movie Library (same for my Shows) - and works as designed.

Oh Yes… I do wish this feature request the best of luck.
… and I hope I live long enough to find out what happened.

I currently have 22 libraries.

My main problem is that I have separated the libraries by languages. When you put a movie in a library the library has a language defined. Hence if I put a spanish movie inside an English library, then in the library the movie will show an English title and the synopsis will be in English.

I’m from Spain, so Spanish is my main language. I live in Quebec, so I use French in my day to day life. I’m fluent in English so I prefer to watch movies and tv series in his original version when possible. I have a basic/medium level in Japanese (lived there) as well as in Chinese (my wife is Chinese).

I don’t wish to mix my French movies with my English ones, and above all I don’t wish to see the summary and title in English if the movie isn’t in English. Currently for me the best solution is to keep things separated. I also have separated libraries for my children movies, it’s very easy to manage access to a library or not in their accounts.

So about having ā€œfoldersā€ (virtual ones, not physical) in the sidebar. It’s a very easy function to implement, yet I understand that it should be implemented in all the players, hence a lot of work to implement, but for people with many libraries I think it would be nice to have.

Also if the sidebar was created to have 1 movie library, 1 tv shows, 1 etc… why they took the time to implement the ability to arrange the libraries order and visibility ? If in the end it was designed to have only 5 libraries (Movies, Tv Shows, Music, Photos, Videos) why implement those features ?

Well… that’s sound reasoning and a user case scenario that should be considered - and if someone has another Mother Of All Work-Arounds… let’s hope we see it…

Some people are using Plex for personal photo/videos. Especially if sharing these, you need different libraries for different audiences (eg pics of family outings to be shared with family, pics of birds for your birdwatching club, church activity pictures to be shared with church friends, etc).
