How do I nest movie libraries so that I can expand/collapse the Movie library

Hello Plex world,
I would like to nest my Movie library in the left panel of the main screen so that I can expand/collapse the movie library icon to see many more movie libraries. So in the end I would like two main libraries, movies and TV shows, that I could expand/collapse to reveal sub-libraries of movies and TV shows.
All I know how to do is to add a library for each movie category, adventure, comedy, etc. and the left panel will grow when I add TV shows.
Thanks in advance,
Chip

Not sure what you have and what you want.
TV shows and movies must be in seperate folders
Check the many posts and intructions on setting up your plex library!

That’s not possible. You can’t create nested libraries.

Is /movies/collections/james bond/Goldfinger/Goldfinger.mp4 ā€œnestedā€

In the file system, yes. (BTW - I fixed that file name for you - it was sucking pretty badly)
In Plex it’s just a movie in a movie library - unless… You take a walk on the wild side:

Do you need this many Libraries? Probably not, but they work for me - until they don’t - then I can do something else.

I number my librariers so sorting alphabetically has the ones I use/want at the top.

  1. Tv Shows
  2. Other TV
  3. Movies
  4. Music videos
  5. Music
  6. Home videos
  7. Photos
  8. 4k media

I use naming that puts things in the order that makes sense to me - Years in order - Music together - TV Shows together - Various Movie Genres alphabetically.

Of course everyone should use what makes sense to them - but waiting for Plex or wanting something Plex doesn’t do makes no sense at all. If you want to split up your material - figure something out, make some libraries and git-er-done.

Note: The ā€˜Sort Title’ Field is also something I use to great advantage - all my Bonds, by year, one-after-the-other - regardless of their actual names… just as it should be:

Your point here? It’s not nested libraries is it?

Plex doesn’t work that way. The model is, you have one library for your movies, and you use the filtering system to find genres like adventure, comedy, etc., within that library. You can make separate libraries if you want to, but Plex doesn’t do nested libraries.

I’ve asked this before and the answer I get back is to make use of the genre tag to group them virtually. They you search for them that way. It really isn’t what I want either. I agree they need a way to create multiple breakout libraries that can be grouped as one.

  1. Documentaries:
  2. -> Music
  3. -> Art
  4. -> Technology
  5. -> History

Etc. This alows for smaller (and easier to update) libraries that can be grouped together for ease of browsing. This would be VERY handy for a massive music library where you might only want a given linrary to hold a few thousand songs vs. the 450,000 songs I have. Libraries by name, then group them under MUSIC so you don’t end up with 26 libraries. Having one BIG music library means it takes days to update whenyou add music.

Thanks everyone! Yes, I wanted to ā€œnestā€ libraries like you nest folders in windows explorer. I have many movies and TV shows and I didn’t want so many libraries at the highest level. However, it looks like I will do just that! Thanks for all the extra tips too!
You guys are the greatest.

Sorry I don’t get your comment/questions !

I asked "IS ** /movies/collections/james bond/Goldfinger/Goldfinger.mp4 ** ā€œnestedā€ "

Just trying to clarify the definition of ā€œnesting or nestedā€ ??
