I am sure this has been mentioned before, so frustrated that I can’t at this time be bothered to look.
I have a NVIDIA Shield, connected to my WDCloud devices. I have setup folders for Movies, but it chooses to see them as something else… for example… A folder called Kids, in this folder are movies, but Plex says “A day in the life of a group of teens as they travel around New York City skating, drinking, smoking weed, and deflowering virgins.” not something I want to see visible to my Family, I have another folder called “Personal” for family vids, it is now called “Personal Effects” as “Personal Effects - The Space Between Loss and Love” what gives?
I’m doing this from memory.
Go to the folder edit, add it as “other videos” then rename to Kids
I assume the movies inside this folder meet the plex naming convention? something like
Alien (1979). to get the correct metadata, you might need to change the agents
So, this folder Kids will appear at the top. Next the other renamed folders, in alphabetical order
Hi,
Thanks for the response.
Is this on my NAS or in PMS ?
I don’t have any option to name the folder on the NAS, and now the PlexServer doesn’t event see it, however it does see my “Personal” folder as “A man who has placed a personal advertisement for a prospective wife goes to wait at the meeting place that he designated”
Regardless, when I have Empty folders it categories them then adds a description and dumps some random film in there…
Thanks for your input though
If you go to the server webpage, you add libraries there, that’s where you can name the folders.
So, for example, I have a folder on my nas Videos, & a couple of sub folders called Football. & My Videos (home videos)
On the webpage, of my plex server (nvidia shield) Home, then under Libraries, + (add) select other videos, rename that to what ever.
Then browse to the folder, to select it.
then update library, on the device, along the top. will be Movies, Football, Tv shows
How are the videos in the folders named?
you could try cleaning the libraries.
PS Wembley808. do you live near wembley? I live a couple of miles from there
Hi bubblegum,
Thanks for the response, really appreciate it.
I’ve stopped using it on the Shield since I suspect (leaving it on all the time) it may have killed the Shield at least twice.
No response from the shield at all, no light nothing, I was fearing the worst however I got it working again by (from Tech Support)
-
Unplug all the cables and keep the device off for good 2-3 minutes.
-
Plug the Power cable, controller through USB (Wired) and Ethernet cable to the SHIELD. Do not connect HDMI cable.
-
The device will power on. Keep it idle for about 5 minutes and keep tapping A button on the controller. Continue tapping for about a few seconds.
-
Now leave the device in this state without the HDMI cable for good 15 to 20 minutes and plug the HDMI cable.
-
See if the SHIELD displays any output.
However, I have Plex Media Server on a Raspberry pi which I will use (just having issues mounting a NAS atm)
But I will take your advices.
I don’t live near Wembley, I’ve had my e-mail for 20+ years and when creating it I chose Wembley from Fraggle Rock!, I’m probably one of the very few people who pay for their e-mail! (real cheap though) but I’ve had it sooo long
I actually live not far from Sheffield.
I may be way off here, but I suspect the way you’re organizing your directory structure is at odds with the way Plex recognizes media and associates metadata. Take a look at this FAQ article which describes recommended ways to organize media - https://support.plex.tv/articles/categories/media-preparation/
