For a new Plex pass user with two servers, how to move recorded TV Shows between the two servers

I have set up two Plex Media servers on two different computers, Samsung Laptop and Beelink. Both have the same HDHR tuner with Live TV&DVR running. I DVR/record a TV show on Samsung and then want to move it to Beelink. How is that accomplished? I am a new user so if there is an article on this topic or step by step procedure. Is there something like in Windows where you can copy and paste or cut and paste between the servers?

I think both your servers are windows based, easier is probably setting up an SMB share, then you should be able to drag and drop the files to your new server.

Is there a Plex process to move files between server libraries other than the SMB as suggested?

Plex has no concept of sharing (moving) content across multiple servers.

I guess a key question should be… what exactly are you trying to achieve by running two separate servers and then sharing/moving media from one to another?

For testing or troubleshooting. Organizing files on the two different servers where one is a mobile server(laptop) and the other fixed location minicomputer. The mobile server would travel to different locations during various times during the year perhaps accessing content on the fixed server minicomputer or adding content from another source.

Personally, I’ve opted to use the desktop app to download certain movies / shows while I’m on business trips instead of keeping separate servers. And if there’s sufficient internet bandwidth at the place where I’m traveling, even regular remote access to my home server does the job.

But that’s just my two cents

If you want to keep two separate servers using the same underlying media, you might want to look into apps like rclone to mirror your media (just take care it’s not mirroring data while that media is written to your original server, but only complete files).

SMB networking the two machines together would be the best way. If you’re just trying to move over a few recordings now and then, you could use a USB thumb drive. Either way, you would have to move the files over in windows.

You could keep and use the beelink as your main server, and just use the “Plex Desktop App” on your samsung laptop to watch everything. I don’t think you were trying to keep two copies of the same media, you just want to move over files you recorded on one to the other, correct?

Thanks for all the responses, I am grateful for the patience shown. I am very interested in all the comments and suggestions. I would only at this point of my understanding of the Plex options be interested in what Bubba described"

Operating only one server is less confusing. Last night I accidently had three programs recording at the same time and they were all reduced to 720p instead of 1080p.

 1. However, I would like to know, using a flash/thumb drive, the process to move a file from one server to another. Is SMB networking the only way?

 2. The Samsung server is useful now as a backup to the newly setup Beelink. So can it continue to run on my laptop but become inactive or paused? It is less confusing for me to now understand that there is a Plex Media Server program and a Plex Client App program with both running on the same computer at the same time, even though I have not found a clear list of what each is capable of doing independent from the other. Should the Beelink suddenly die, as happened to my really old Toshiba, the Samsung could be available. I have moved the Beelink 12Pro mini to where I watch my vintage 2008-2014 Panasonic Plasma TV and I have both the server and app programs running at the same time on that computer. The Panasonic doesn’t have driver using the HDMI input that I have found for my TC-P46S1 Panasonic so the Windows Generic PuP monitor drive doesn’t quite fill the screen but is quite nice to just using a mouse, select and play programs. I also have an older fire stick and Chromecast on the other HDMI inputs of that TV, but the performance is not as good.

3.)Using Plex Pass is it possible with the HDHR tuner or another radio tuner, record and playback radio stations?

4.) I have a subscription to Marquee Sports Network that I tried to add manually to the list of apps on Plex, Streaming Services, and it is not found. Does that mean that app is not available on Plex? What does “More Ways to Watch” mean for subscription apps?

Regarding the thumb drive, basically you insert the drive into a USB port. Windows will typically detect it and mount it for use. You should see it show up in File Manager. Then it just a matter of dragging the movies or tv episodes you want to move. for your plex media directory and dropping them onto the thumb drive. When you are done, right click on the drive icon and click unmount or disconnect. I don’t recall what term they use now. Then remove the thumb drive from the Beelik and plug it into your laptop. Now you can just drag and drop from the thumb drive to your media directory on the laptop
