I have multiple Plex Media Server instances. One is at home which contains the bulk of my content. I have others outside of home because of ISP restrictions on "not running servers" on their network.
I would love the ability to have Plex Media Server transfer a show or movie to another PMS instance. This would enable me to make an item at home accessible by having my Plex Media Server at home MOVE or COPY it to a remote Plex Media Server.
Currently, I have to ftp or ssh a copy outside for friends to be able to stream it.
I would imagine that since Plex can move files to Cloud Services, adding the ability to move/share to another Plex Media Server would be possible.
+1 for this, and yes you can use a multitude of file syncing tool’s to achieve this, however it would be far simpler for Plex to manage the movement of files. I’d like to even see the ability to move to the cloud then pull it down to another server.
+1. This is a very old request, but it would still be really appreciated. Just as Ophate, I have a main server (Windows) with all the movies and I copy subsets on my second servers (Synology and nVidia Shield TV)…
Transfering/copying movies means sync also the metadata between servers…
Why has there been no response from the devs on why this is or isn’t going to be developed or why it is not something they want. There seems to be quite a lot of want/need for it.
+1
I would even be willing to have a small fee associated with the ability to copy files between servers. Usually I can copy files with a portable hard drive, but that is not possible when traveling for long periods
I have a home server with all my stuff. Setting up a mobile server for when I’m traveling off the grid. Server-to-server sync would be much appreciated.
Without this feature I guess I’ll have to try to kludge a solution with something like keeping my media directory in Dropbox or Google Drive or some such service that will do the sync for me. But it’s going to be clumsy at best, especially if I want selective syncing.
