For the love of god, PLEASE fix Android Plex Player functionality for those of us that do NOT use Plex Accounts (only need Plex locally so no need for account). Can the Plex team please confirm?

Hello,

I don’t know if I am in the minority, but I do not use a Plex Account. I have zero need for it since I only stream locally. I require no features from having a Plex Account. It used to work absolutely flawlessly just for streaming videos from my PC to my TV and/or Nvidia Shield. I do not want any servers linked to an account. I only require local functionality. Just an fyi, the shield is the client. My server is on a PC.

Within the past year, functionality for the Android player specifically is absolutely broken for those of us who do not use accounts. Below are the issues. Can someone from the Plex team PLEASE confirm that these are being looked at?

  1. If you are not signed into an account on the shield, you cannot even access any servers. Signing is as “guest” breaks the entire app so you HAVE to sign in with an account. If you sign in as guest, the server shows as disconnected (orange triangle next to server name) and will not open.

  2. Prior to #1 occurring, if your server was not claimed on an account, the Android player gets stuck in a ‘read-only’ mode where you can watch stuff, but you can’t keep your place in a movie, and your watch progress/subtitles/audio tracks get reset to default if you exit the video and re-open it (i have created numerous topics on this issue and have not received any followup on months).

These issues ONLY happen with Android. Roku player works fine. Please Plex, PLEASE can someone acknowledge that these issues are being looked at?

I responded to your original post, Shield Plex Player seems to be stuck in some sort of “read-only” mode - #48 by Streamdable99. No need for a new one.
