So, I have a file “BBC The Secret of Beethovens Fifth Symphony (2016).mp4” I want Plex to match.
As much as I try, entering this movies IMDB infos does not work.
Entering tt5766222 as suggested here (under Tipps, bottom of page) and searching gives me “Dream Girl”, “2:22”, “The Flesh and the Devil” or “Flight 222” as results.
Why does this have to be so hard and opaque?

This is a documentary. It won’t match with the Plex Movie agent. You need to perform a manual match with the TheMovieDatabase agent and hope this docu is listed there.

It should get a match at TMDB, but that’s only if you go through the steps of Local Asshat MP4/M4V Plex Bork Prevention outlined here:
Many (most?) MP4/M4V files come packed full of bogus embedded metadata in the Title Field and like a total AssHat Plex not only reads this info, but prefers it over a perfectly good file name/structure. You can combat this developmentally retarded situation by moving Local Media Assets to the bottom of every agent list you can find. All tabs in TV Show and Movies here:

Just drag LMA to the bottom of the list and drop it. If you do have embedded metadata this will cure the issue, if you don’t it won’t matter. LMA will do what it has to from the bottom.

Even though I just added this item to TMDB - it ‘may’ not draw down the poster image you’ll see there just yet - or any of the data you’ll find there - due to the untimely updating of a Plex proxy for TMDB (if one exists). The TVDB Plex proxy lags behind for days/weeks/months (Plex’s Patented ‘Meh - Good Enough’ Customer Service), so you may have to place some local artwork or hand edit a description if this material doesn’t come down during a match.
