Force Plex to download all codecs? (No internet connection)

Does anyone know of a way to force PMS to download all of the available codecs? I’m going to be making a mobile PMS that will not have internet access and I wouldn’t want to not be able to play something because of an unavailable codec.

Any other suggestions for an “offline” server? I’m guessing I shouldn’t sign into my Plex home. Is there a way to make it so that the Plex server is just accessible without an internet connection?

What is your use case? Wouldn’t it be more simple to use Kodi?

I suppose it might. I want to host it on the WD My Passport Wireless Pro though and I don’t think it does Kodi.

I see.

Never used that device… But for what it’s worth, I use a Nvidia ShieldTV in my camper. Signed it into my account at home, plugged in my usb drive, got it to download all metadata, set it (the client app) to sign in automatically, and now it works just fine offline… But the server and app are on the same device, so it might be different for you.

I’d just try it out

Cool. Thanks.

@jjross Plex Media Server, especially after it has updated, will check to make sure it has the proper codecs after you sign in. As long as you connect the Plex Media Server to the internet for a few minutes before taking it offline you should be fine. I made the mistake of updating Plex manually once offline and suffered from not being able to play anything due to missing codecs, since they seem to not be bundled with the main application.
