Force Plex to Use File Name and Nothing Else - Ever

Server Version#: latest
Player Version#: latest

Hi - sorry if this is covered elsewhere but I did a motherboard replacement this weekend and my patience is running thin…

Can anyone remind me what the settings are that will force the plex server to use file names to describe the media files and nothing else, ever?

I’m running plex server on a desktop attached to a NAS. I’m old and I only want to use file names to describe the files on the server. I don’t want video previews, or interpreted names, or anything else ever.

Just use the file name already.

Like, if the file is called

(BBC) Please Don’t Mess with the Filename

I want that, not

Bbc please Don’t whatever 2000!

The files have no title or name metadata - I’ve removed all of it from every file.

I figured it out before but (stupid me) forgot to make myself a guide to remind me how I did it.

Help!

Create a library of the type “Other Videos”, instead of “Movies”.

Thanks, but that’s always my library type - ‘other videos’ - still no luck.

Set the Scanner to Plex Video Files and the Agant to Personal Media.

That’s how it was set, but just to be sure, I deleted the library and recreated it - no change. Plex still “interprets” the file names instead of just using them as they are.

Are you sure the files themselves don’t have embedded metadata?

folder view ?

positive - ran several batch files against mp4 and mkv types, manually removed others, and double-checked examples before posting here

I don’t know how ‘folder view’ relates to my question.

fixed - not sure how or why, but the most recent ‘update libraries’ I ran on it fixed the problem

filenames, for example, went from

Bbc blah blah blah

to

(BBC) Blah Blah Blah

matching the filename again

thanks for your help!
