Home Movies - Force Plex to Display File Names and Ignore Metadata

Server Version#: Version 4.57.4

For my Home Movies library I want Plex to display the file name rather than the “Description” in the metadata.

For example, I have a video the file name of which is:
2016-10 Losin October.mp4
The metadata contains a “Description” field which is:
This video is about Diving Losin October 2016

Plex displays this video as: “Diving Losin October 2016”.
I want it to display as: “2016-10 Losin October

Is there some way to do that without editing or deleting the metadata?

Plex DocumentationYour MediaPersonal Media Files (Naming and Organizing)
Personal Media Movies (for media organized as movies)
Naming Home Series Media (for media organized as TV shows)

Disable use of Local Media Assets for personal media:

Settings → Agents → Movies → Personal Media
Uncheck the box for Local Media Assets
Repeat in Shows → Personal Media Shows for Local Media Assets (TV)
Then refresh the metadata for the library.

Alternately, if you wish to keep using Local Media Assets, use Subler and edit the Title/Name field. After saving any changes, refresh the metadata for the file (or library).

Thank you. That worked. I appreciate your taking the time to write such a detailed and concise explanation. That’s the way “How To” documentation ought to be written.

As is so often the case the Plex documentation seems to be written from the point of view of the guy who wrote the software rather than from the point of view of a user who wants to get something done. I won’t whine to much, but, for example: “Local Media Assets”. Is an ordinary user supposed to know what that means?

Perhaps @FordGuy61 ought to volunteer to clean up the docs a bit.
