Force Refresh Metadata

I use iTunes to manage my media, and iFlicks 2 to encode it all and load the metadata from TheTVDB and TheMovieDB, and this works 99% of the time, but sometimes my workflow sends a show through iFlicks without successfully adding/updating the metadata. It then appears in iTunes and gets sent to Plex without proper metadata, and as such, it shows up in Plex with the incorrect metadata.

Sending it back through iFlicks, but manually searching for the proper metadata from TheTVDB adds the proper metadata, but these changes are not reflected in Plex.

For example, in season 2 of Stranger Things, the original metadata of episode one had the title as “Chapter Nine: MADMAX” (I guess the uploader figured it would just continue after season one, without starting over), but the after updating it with iFlicks, its proper name “Chapter One: MADMAX” now shows in iTunes. However, Plex still shows it as “Chapter Nine” instead of “Chapter One”, and no amount of refreshing or updating seems to correct this.

Another example is the files that make it through iFlicks without any metadata getting added have the title just appear as the filename. Again, sending it through iFlicks fixes this and the metadata properly shows in iTunes, but in Plex, the title is still just the filename, and I can’t seem to get it to update.

Deleting the file from Plex and adding it back seems to fix it, but I’ve found files that I’ve missed from a while ago that have been watched by me and other users, and I would rather not delete them, re-add them, and re-mark them as watched, followed by telling the other users to mark them all as watched again as well…

Obviously, manually editing them all would work as well, but that seems much too tedious, especially considering the correct metadata is already in the file and appears properly in iTunes.

Basically, if the metadata is updated outside of Plex, does anyone have any ideas how I could get Plex to recognize the updated metadata?

Thanks

You forgot the ™ haha

I did “The Plex Dance”, and it seemed to work. I didn’t have to clean the bundles though, and the trash is emptied with every library scan, which happens automatically when a file change is detected, so I just needed to move them and move them back. Seems the only solution is removing the media and re-adding it, you’re right. Now to make sure media isn’t added to Plex without proper metadata in the first place.

I updated my iFlicks settings to prevent media from being added to iTunes (and Plex) if metadata is found, so that seems like my best solution.

Thanks Otto man!

Sweet, thanks! Glad to help the cause
