Help! My Plex has stopped adding metadata for items

I am usually very organised with my library (it is over 4tb and all correctly named and folder per Plex’s instructions and all in mp4 format). I have PMS running on a Linux server and to add media to it, I drag content into the correct samba share and mange everything that way. I had been doing this for about 6 months to the point where it was working perfectly to I haven’t changed anything or touched any settings in months.

However, about a week ago Plex stopped getting metadata for my newest added items. It kept all the metadata for everything before, but when I try and add something to Plex now it will add, but with the wrong name, no artwork, no ratings, no description or list of actors, and with tv shows individual episode names are not being found either.

For example, yesterday I added the newest episode of Game of Thrones, which is listed under the correct tv show and even under the correct season, but the episode is just called ‘Episode 7’ with no artwork or descriptions. The same happened for all the latest seasons of Arrow and The Flash, as well as a handful of films, new and old.

When I click fix incorrect match, it says there are no matches and i cannot select anything from the agent and language drop down boxes - it just says ‘Loading…’ forever. Also, when I try pressing refresh next to any of the content I am having issues with, it claims to be getting the metadata but that does not do anything.

I am sure I have not changed any settings but any help or advice would be greatly appreciated. I am completely stumped as to what the problem is, and would love a solution

Thanks in advance!

I’m experiencing a similar problem… Plex stopped adding metadata and covers. It doesn’t matter what I try but it didn’t work any more. I use TheTVDB for all the tv shows.

OK, I tried a few things. It has nothing to do with port mapping of 32400 (deactivated it a few days ago…). Also it doesn’t matter if I use TheTVDB or TheMovieDB to get the meta data.

I have massive problems with The Flash (2014). At Game of Thrones i got the title but no additional informations.

OK, I fixed it for my installation…
What I’ve done:

  • downloaded the plex package again from the plex.tv site
  • installed it over the existing installation
  • updating the meta data didn’t work so i tried again to rename the folder
  • named it again like before and tried to update - with success!
  • tried the GoT episode without success so I removed it from the folder and put it back -> success!

So I think reinstalling plex over the existing installation worked (for the moment). I hope it is fixed now…

Hi
Plexmedia server: plexmediaserver-0.9.16.6.1993-5089475
OS: CentOS 6.5

Had the same problem. I’ve done everything what was proposed below but it not helped. When I added additional DNS nameserver (Google DNS) to my resolve.conf file, all data has been updated and downloaded.

Thanks, Stazz

I have set 8.8.8.8 as primary dns and 8.8.4.4 as secondary. Plex is installed on my Synology which is also the my dhcp server.

Other TV series have no problems but the recent Flash episode cannot update the data.

Ok, its some kind of strange… Every week the same. I add a new episode of Flash and plex cannot load the tags. I have to remove the whole folder with all episodes (so I mean all Flash episodes!!!). Then clean up plex and empty the recycle bin and readd all episodes. Then the new episode will also get the tags successful. No other series or movies habe this problem, only the Flash episodes…

New week, new trouble. Added two episodes of Arrow and one episode of The Flash yesterday. No problems with Arrow, the usual problems with The Flash. Plex doesn’t fetch the data for The Flash. No chance!
I had to remove The Flash from the library and re-add it. Now it has fetched all the data and everything is fine.
It obviously has nothing to do with TheTVDB because all other TV Shows are updated correctly and the data for The Flash is existing and working. There is only a problem when adding new episodes to the existing set of episodes.

It is a bit sad, that I am the only one who is trying to fix this and no one cares about. I think I am not the only one with this problem?!

It is getting more worse veery time. Actually it doesn’t work any more to remove and re-add the whole Flash-folder. Now not an single episode is tagged. Anyone with the same problem???

Help!! same issue occurring!!! This happened after update to latest version…

I’ve got this problem for a few months now. Solved it a few day ago by reencoding ALL episodes of The Flash. Now it works. Don’t know why… In the past ist worked and now it doesn’t. Something has changed but I don’t know what. Sorry!
