This needs to be posted again and will continue to be posted until the devs acknowledge. We as server owners should have the capability of forcing the remote quality of streams. We are sick of having to inform our users to go into the settings and change the quality. This can be done, so why hasn’t it been added yet?.
We understand that for remote users using a mobile device on a data plan that it would exhaust their data quickly but to be honest that’s the end users responsibility to know.
Please, for the love of all good things Plex, add a setting in the server options to force remote quality to the clients. If this isn’t possible for whatever reason at least update the clients so that “Automatically adjust quality” is enabled by default.
I’ve seen this brought up so many times and every time it gets ignored. This is the top of the list of things about Plex that I absolutely cannot stand. I’d be happy if the quality setting would persist after every update but it doesn’t. Can we at least get an acknowledgment of this issue? Are devs working on it? If no, then why not? We don’t need more half baked features like Plex arcade. Please focus more on long standing issues like this. Most of my content is HEVC and most clients can direct play this now. Instead I see clients forcing a transcode to a lower quality H264 stream with a higher bitrate. This makes absolutely NO sense as no bandwidth is saved and my server works harder to send out a sub-par stream and burning more electricity while doing it.
