Hello,
I found a way to force my TV to switch to its HDR mode before playing a 4K HDR video.
It’s a little bit manual but it worth it for HDR videos.
Nvidia provides a tool to test HDR on a TV plugged on a PC: https://developer.nvidia.com/hdr-display-sample
You run the run_hdr.bat file and you have picture loaded in fullscreen, if everything is ok with your config, your TV switches in HDR mode.
While this file is running you use “ALT TAB” to go back to PLEX and play your movie. The TV stays in HDR mode until you close the Nvidia tool (picture loaded).
The result is probably not as good as a real HDR recognition, with HDR metadata passed correctly to the TV, but it’s better than anything else I tried yet. My previous option was to configure the mpv.conf file of PLEX to enable some settings when HDR is detected in a video, see here:
But the result with the nvidia tool is far better.
Please note that this workaround doesn’t work any more since latest Plex/Nvidia/Windows updates.
I have now moved to Windows 10 Creator Update to handle HDR differently.
Hello there, is there any new method to go into hdr mode?
I use a Windows 10 64-bit htpc
Connected to a Epson TH 9300
I use the newest Plex Media Server and Media Player 2.1.1.703
4k 60Hz does work. But Plex does not recognize hdr material (hevc 10bit)
