Last couple of Samsung client updates appear to have introduced some subtitle issues. The first program I watched with forced subtitles I could not get them to display without reinstalling the app on tv. Since then even with the correct subtitles auto selected they have to be manually reselected.
Hi @sLumpy
Is this an issue you’re aware of?
I am not aware of these issues. Could you provide clearer repro steps and logs?
Hi @sLumpy
The steps to reproduce are quite simple on my end. Through Plex account settings Forced Subtitles are automatically selected, I see them selected in Samsung client too. When watching the show with Forced Subtitles they don’t show on screen. Last night I had to reselect the Forced Subtitle a couple of times to get them to start displaying.
This issue started a couple of Plex client updates back. I have tried deleting Plex client a few times and again last night.
To provide logs I see there is a setting in Samsung client. When that is enabled where do I find them to send? Do you also want the Server logs?
Hi @sLumpy
I enabled Samsung Client logging to server and have captured the server logs for you. I included the .SRT file for Forced Subtitles. I played the first 10 minutes which covers the first scene of Forced Subtitles between 00:08:48-00:09:19 minutes.
If I keep reselecting the Forced Subtitles from drop down in Samsung Client I can eventually get it to play them, but it’s hit and miss if that will remain the case for the entire episode.
Subtitles play fine on Windows Client and used to be issue free on Samsung too. Last night I deleted the Samsung Client and removed power from TV. Then re-installed client and setup again.Plex Media Server Logs_2021-11-10_09-35-47.zip (3.2 MB)
Hi @sLumpy
Do the logs reveal what’s going on with subtitles?
Hi @sLumpy have you had a chance to review the subtitle issues I’ve been experiencing?
@TrialMaster it sounds like I am also experiencing a similar issue as you discribe with forced subtitals not appearing on my Samsung TV.
Mind you, I haven’t yet done any debugging or cross comparision testing. So far I’ve just noticed it while watching Invasion for the Japanese language.
I will see if there are other forced subtitled video that I have in my library.
I have usually just changed it to the full english subs, which I do find quite annoying.
It is nice to know I’m not the only one.
Likewise, good to know others are experiencing same. I have been using a Shield Pro and Apple TV4k (i got a lend of) and they work fine. I have used the Samsung app for like 5 years and this issue only appeared a couple or three Plex app updates ago. Lots of shows include Forced Subtitles so it’s become an issue for us. If the Samsung app is not going to address it in a timely fashion I’ll need to pivot to another client.
@sLumpy any intent to reply?
I haven’t had a chance to look yet. I only noticed some failed subtitle connections in the logs but haven’t dug deeper.
hey @TrialMaster,
This appears to work for me.
If you change the burn settings for the subtitles to always. It appears that I am always getting them onscreen now. Have a go yourself.
settings → Subtitles → Burn Subtitles → Always.
I’ll take a look at that setting. Are you finding that it’s transcoding when you burn the subtitles?
yes. it does transcode with the subs burnt in
Thanks for confirming, that doesn’t work for me. I’ve moved to Apple TV 4K client and it’s flawless. I can’t wait any longer for Samsung app to be fixed, I started this thread 17/10/21.
