[Forum Preview] Credits Detection for Plex Media Server

I ended up creating a test server to test this feature out, loving it so far. As expected, the video shrunk down when the credits start. Are there any plans to also start the count down for auto play when this happens? Or is that suppose to happen and it’s not implemented on the Apple TV?

Intro skipping works quite well on anime, havent tried this yet tho. The only issue is if they change the OP song halfway through a season. Then it still looks for the first song, so no skipping for the rest of the season. (214 shows in my anime library)

We will be working to improve the experience, but I can’t give details on specific plans or timing, I’m afraid.

Just had my first experience with skip credits during a movie, I was surprised it had a scene during the credits and was picked up perfectly. The feature works great so far!

Hey guys, I’m keen to testing this (with my main server though). Can somebody tell me which PMS version those builds are based on? Probably the latest beta?

They are not. Otherwise there would be no need for the barrage of download links in the first post.

Haha wow, you’re completely right! What a brain lag, sorry  But thank you! Installing this on my main server with a whole lot of stuff and will report eventually

Like my grandpa always said: “Sometimes you need to go all-in if you wanna win big!”

Disclaimer: Grandpa never really said that

I’m still hoping for a docker build. I’d prefer to upgrade my Docker Plex straight to this beta (probably a BAD idea), but loading up a new Plex docker would be less scary than installing it into the base OS.

These instructions were provided in the Transcoder Preview thread for testing in a Docker container. Perhaps they’ll work here as well (in a new, test container)?

Ayyyooooo!

Didn’t know about intro detection! Just took a leftime Plex Pass just for this.
I will be welcoming the credits detection in a future Apple TV app release!

The clients already support this feature and the markers. It’s just the PMS build you need

I see nothing but positive reactions, so I’m betting on seeing it soon in PMS beta

I know there are still a few issues internally we want to resolve, but we’re getting there :slightly_smiling_face:

Google translates:
I tested this version briefly. After I checked all the settings and temporarily set the maintenance time to the current time, the CPU load increased significantly. However, there is hardly any network activity, when the intro is recognized, the network load increases to over 500MB/second. Also, the PMS itself didn’t show anything that it was doing something like the intro detection shows. Suddenly, thumbnails were created from some film title that already exist. Since that got too hot for me, I switched back to the current official version. Ubuntu/Intel

Credit detection requires reading the original media files. Are yours located remotely from the server?

What does this mean?

5 posts were split to a new topic: Fix intro detection in EAC3 files

yes, my media is on a nas, the plex server is a normal computer with ubuntu. All devices are connected with 10Gbits. That’s why I’m surprised at the high CPU utilization (i9 10900 extremely). And the fact that there is no network activity despite the high CPU load means that it is also not creating any credits.

This means that with this version the server is doing things it shouldn’t be doing. The whole behavior is very strange.

Credit detection is done by analysing the video content of the file, whereas intro detection only uses the audio track.
So the CPU load of the two features can differ significantly.

I am aware of that, but a high CPU load only makes sense if media are also analyzed, which requires a network load, since the media are external

Update:
I have now imported the version a second time and this time it seems to work. Now there is also a network load matching the cpu load. However, the media server itself still shows no activity, as is usual when intros or thumbnails are created. You only see the activity in the console.

Unfortunately, I have already found a few errors in the recognition.

Will there be a way to run the credits detection again when an official release is available to fix the bugs? I also miss this function for intro recognition. You can also delete thumbnails and create new ones. Why not intros and credits too?

It would also be great if you could set how the respective client behaves when the credits mark is reached. A “skip credits” button is displayed on the iPhone, on the Apple TV there is no button, but the image is reduced. I would think it would be great if there were different setting options for this.

I also noticed that if “automatically play subsequent videos” is activated, the countdown to the next episode only starts when the credits of the old episode have run out. In my opinion the countdown should start as soon as the credits start.

In any case, great work dear Plex team, I already love this feature! I would appreciate answers to my questions!
