[Forums] Don't like the color schema? Write your own!

Do you think that’s worth a user option?

Possibly. That being said the spirit of this skin was always getting back as classic as I could. So it’s worth seeing what font size was used on the old forums and setting that as default. A user option isn’t a bad idea either, and is something I could probably implement. The defaults of the skin will always be what I consider the closest to the classic version but I have no problem with giving users easier ways of modifying the work so they can take updates. Case in point the white border that randomly appeared tonight.

Can’t the font size be most easily adjusted with most Browsers “zoom” feature?

Yes, but it also adjusts everything else. Either way there will be no default font change I’m happy with how it works. But I’ll see if it makes sense as a user option. BTW I’m halfway through my list of stuff but the user options are live on userstyles.org right now.

So it’s time for an official version scheme thingy here. So I’m calling it v1.0 which is honestly totally arbitrary. Anyway I’ve added a bunch of things in regards to script installing. I’m not able to reproduce the bug @sa2000 showed so I’m awaiting a response from him. The styling issue in the advanced search reported by @beckfield will be patched once I find the style I need to edit. Due to the nature of the dropdown I’m having difficulty getting it visible in developer tools.

Plex Inc. also tweaked their skin tonight. So we got some additional fixes/tweaks from that as well. Mouseover on the elements in the top menu bar now go orange instead of darker gray which is helpful. The date in the advanced search screen is also now correctly formatted.

Changelog v1.0 8/2/15

  • added options for a bunch of settings
  • tweaked how the online status is displayed
  • added ability to modify text size
  • tweaked layout of some elements so they lined up properly

Well, this is great, and it was fun to do. I think I can now say that I am just about as comfortable with the new forum as I was with the old, proving that the bulk of the problem was the look and feel. It also goes to show just how important “look and feel” can be.

Thanks to Otto for supplying the spark. I took his initial style and started learning how to use Stylish. I went very far, very quickly to get my blue theme put together. Then vanstinator parked it over the center field fence, and here we are. ^:)^

Well done, all who played! =D>

@vanstinator, I just noticed that the green ‘online’ border is only showing on the right edge of avatars. Side effect of your realignment tweaks?

Also, the name of your theme still says ‘Classic Forum for Plex v0.1’

I just noticed the same problem with my style. Found the fix. See my latest version, it’s 2nd to last group on the bottom.

I’ve uploaded this to userstyles. Not sure if it will auto-update in stylish or not, still testing.

Classic Forum for Plex | Userstyles.org

I’ll be making a thread for this theme this evening.

I can’t find the thread for this skin, but just wanted to say a whole hearty thank you! The forums are much more pleasant to browse after that.

Haven’t been on for a while but just installed the latest skins and again I think I am most impressed with @vanstinator

Looks excellent.

Thanks

It’s been quite a ride! I’ve enjoyed it as well  I’ll probably continue to tweak and refine but I’ll have to agree the bulk of my work is complete. These last 4 days have probably been the most active I’ve been on the forum.

You probably originally downloaded the skin when I was seeing if title changes would pull down from userstyles, which they don’t. So I can’t actually version the script in its title.

As for the green, I intentionally did that as a test. I was going for something a bit less in-your-face. Is square better? I’m still torn at this point. I’d rather just put “online” somewhere in the message title but I’m not at that stage of skinning yet.

Square is better. For those of us who choose a larger radius on the corners of the Avatars, the green shows up in the opposite corners anyway. Square is better. Rounded square with a concentric radius to the avatar choice is best yet.

Started playing with JavaScript to enhance the skin. This is just a test so it’s not final placement, but it’s more showing a proof of concept I got working.

I agree with Plexhilirator. The single side is almost too subtle.

I would personally much prefer this. I hope you can figure it out. Great work so far dude

That looks Excellent !!!

It’s back to a square for now. As my goal with this skin is to get as close to classic as possible I’ll likely be replacing it with the words online at some point. But I’m still getting my feet under myself on the javascript side. I’ll post a preview of that tonight

Cool OK well take your time, for the time being I am overly happy with the skin as it is

Looking forward to seeing your preview later though

If the configuration field allowed for it, the color of the online indicator could be ‘transparent.’ That would essentially turn it off, for those who don’t like it.

Nice. Fixed it right up.

I like the idea of the textual online indicator but don’t know how to apply JS to this (I don’t know JS period) so I managed to do something similar using CSS after a lot of trial and error.
