Hi guys I am having a few issues with the new free movies and tv shows. If I log into my plex server on my pc and go to announcements click on the free movie link it takes me off the server to desktop app, which shows all the categories but on my plex server it shows nothing. If I load up my plex lg smart tv it only shows most popular category and nothing else. Both my xbox ones in the house show the same too.
Plex server version 1.18.2.2058
Web player version 4.8.4
Plex for LG 4.15.1
Webos 4.1.0
The video on demand / free movies depend on a version of Plex Web thatās not yet available when running Plex Web from your local server.
Therefore you can currently only run it using the hosted Plex Web (https://app.plex.tv/desktop).
Thatāll only help if you donāt have any own content installed on your own Plex Media Server ā e.g. if youāre only watching content from Online Media Sources (news, podcasts, web shows, the new on demand / free tv) or libraries shared with you from your friends.
If you have your own content, youāll still need to run your own server.
With Plex, thereās always been 2 ways to access Plex Web:
The āhosted Plex Webā: https://app.plex.tv/desktop
This version is always automatically updated to the very latest release of Plex Web and first to receive new features.
The Plex Web version installed alongside your local server: https://[IP address of the PMS]:32400/web
This version is updated with the Plex Media Server and tends to be a few weeks behind the hosted Plex Web (as of today⦠hosted = 4.14, local = 4.8.4)
Both versions exist alongside each other without conflicts and you can easily switch between them⦠the only actual impact will be that some newer features are only available in the hosted version.
With all the questions arising from the difference in the hosted vs local Web App, and with the Online Movies being available on versions 4.14+, what are the plans to have the hosted version updated?
As of now, and only in Server 1.18.3.2111, we are still only at 4.12+.
Seems like a ābigā enough announcement to leave those of us using our internal Web Apps out in the coldā¦
As usual⦠no official ETAs available.
Based on experience Iāll guess itāll be part of one of the next 2-3 PMS updates. But thatās just my personal estimate⦠donāt take my word for it
V4.20.2 of the web app will be included in PMS 18.6.
However, it appears that the DRM requirement will still prevent playback of the VOD media source from working in some browsers, if the web app was loaded without encryption. i.e. http://127.0.0.1:32400/web
It might therefore only work if you determine the FQDN of your server and only if your router/firewall/DNS resolver donāt throw a spanner in the works (see āDNS rebinding protectionā)
Here is how you can get your serverās FQDN: https://plex.tv/api/resources/?X-Plex-Token=xxxxxxxxxxxxxx&includeHttps=1
(replace xxxxxxxxxxxxxx by your X-Plex-Token ā never, ever post this publicly!)
Hi almost there on my plex server I can see all the plex movies/tv shows catalogues but on my lg tv it only shows 3 recently added, plex picks and most popular. Any advise
