Plex Free Movies and TV not on Server?

I am running Plex on my Synology NAS and just updated to the newest package. However, I am not seeing the Free Movies and TV option on my menu bar. This happens when I am using Plex on my local network. Not sure if it matters, but I have not signed up to be a preimum member yet.

Server

When I go to the plex website and sign in, it shows up without issue.

Web

The video-on-demand service requires Plex Web 4.14 or newer.
The version of Plex Web installed on your local Plex Media Server is still on an older release.

So if you want to check out the Movies and TV on Plex, you’ll need to do so via the hosted version of Plex Web

Thank you for the info!

So you’re saying that Movies and TV on Plex is ONLY available via the Web App? or will it eventually show up on the Plex Apps(MAC/PC) as well?

It will be available on these clients as well, after they have been updated.

For now, I only see the free movies and TV Show on my Apple TV 4K and iPhone. I don’t see them on the Plex Server on my NAS. As others have suggested that will probably change. I don’t use Plex on my iMac or PC.

The free movies are pretty great though, only problem is I have access to so much content I have no idea what to watch

Use the ‘hosted’ web app. It has been explained already above.
app.plex.tv

Ahh, okay. That’s not an issue for me, I just use my iPhone and Apple TV for clients.

the confusion is coming from people who use their local server ip to access plex web, instead of Plex Web

  • Plex Web ---- > up to date with ad movies/tv
  • https://local server ip:32400/web ---- > NOT up to date with ad movies/tv

Hi,
I think I have disabled Plex Free Movies and Tv. Anybody know how to completely remove it so anybody accessing Plex can’t see it? To me and my users it’s a useless service. We still want to control all our own content. Not sponsored content Plex is making money off of. This is probably a great service for people that don’t have content. The purpose of Plex for myself and my users is full control, no ads, no commercials. Not to mention the library already has a good number of things they are posting so you are duplicating content.

Thanks

The video on demand part of Plex is not linked to your server
it’s a per-account feature and therefore can only be enabled/disabled there.

If you have setup managed users for your family within a Plex Home, you can disable the feature in your account settings for Online Media Sources (Disabled for managed users).

For friends with their own Plex accounts, disabling video on demand is up to them in their own account settings (set Account > Online Media Sources to Disabled)

The link below will work for all those scenarios:
https://app.plex.tv/desktop#!/settings/online-media-sources

I’m sorry but my users should not have to go in and disable that. From what I’m understanding that’s what they have to do. This should be an option shut off by default. We pay for the software plex shouldn’t be controlling our content so they can make more money.

A user with his/her own plex.tv accouint is not “yours”. He/She is his/her own.
You cannot control things these user see, except when sharing your own content from your own server.

The VOD library is not on your server. It is also not funneled through your server. It is wholly Plex’s.

All you can control is your own plex.tv account and your own ‘managed users’.
