Just to add to my earlier posts.
The freeze/deadlock which has been seen elsewhere is already being investigated
What is not is any crashes on freebsd
@clint.lindsey could you confirm if yours are crashes or lockouts? Does the process exit?

If server is crashing, I understand you can get output from dmesg to see what sort of rash
The process crashes with a segmentation fault:
Nov 11 10:05:23 server1 kernel: pid 58862 (Plex Media Server), uid 972: exited on signal 11
I’ve been able to randomly trigger the crash by simply browsing my collection via an AppleTV and seems to happen only when selecting a movie to get further detail.
I also primarily use Plex via Apple TV although I believe some of the crashes have been triggered by Chrome, PS4 and Android TV. I’m not sure though. I haven’t gotten many details apart from the occasionsl “Plex isn’t working”.
Again, still no crashes since I downgraded.
@parski - the logs of the 24th october showed a deadlock which i have just checked out again and it does look like the seek triggered deadlock that has just got fixed and released in beta version 1.14.0.5468
Suggest you update and see if it is more reliable than what you had in october
See release note
Still getting the segment fault crashes with 1.14.0.5468, which I’m not surprised as the crashes have always occurred prior to anything being transcoded and are trigged by simply browsing.
Got the crash again on 1.13.2.5154. Well, it looks to be the same crash judging by the logs:

Any news regarding crash report handling on FreeBSD or is it all Tidal right now?
Last information I have is that breakpad (which is what we use currently) does not work on FreeBSD
That’s a shame.
It crashed again this morning.

I just noticed that a majority of the crashes happen after the scanner has scanned section 14. The section it crashes on varies but it appears to be whichever one happens after section 14. I’m going to try to remove the library corresponding to the section. I believe it’s my music library.
Just like to ship in running freenas 11.2 no issues what so ever with plex not in this regard running in modified plugin/jail iocage 11.2 as wel.
Just wonderd if i could get a copy of the watchdog script i am not so good in scripts and like to adapt it to watch radar and sonarr who do regulary drop in there jails.
@parski did you resolve this issue?
I’m facing the same issue with both 1.14.0.5470 and 1.14.1.5488 on FreeNAS 11.2. I don’t actually get any log messages, my /usr/local/share/plexmediaserver-plexpass/Plex_Media_Server process just dies. Nothing I do seems to trigger it, it just randomly dies.
I was able to trigger the crash initially by starting a scan, but after rebuilding the database this no longer occurs… I’m rebuilding the DB daily at this point but it doesn’t seem to help.
Thanks.
Maybe. It’s hard to say since it may crash at any time but it hasn’t in a several days. What I’ve done is remove my audio libraries and put them in a separate jail running another Plex instance. It hasn’t crashed in a couple of weeks but I’m not betting on it being “fixed” (more like worked around) just yet. Check your logs if the second to most recent library scanned contains audio or not.
Thanks for the reply!
Well, a few weeks after I posted, I discovered that Sonarr was hard linking in another dir that Plex was also sharing out. So it was seeing one version, putting it in the DB, seeing the linked version as another copy, deleting the original, and starting over with the metadata gathering… This caused DB scans to take longer and longer and at some point caused some kind of DB corruption.
Ultimately, I think my issue was self inflicted and after cleaning everything up, I think we’ve stabilized… It’s only been about a week… but fingers crossed…
I have nothing like that in my setup so it might be that we either have two different issues or we are able to reproduce it in different ways, assuming we are correct about our causes.
As for my issue I have not had a crash since I separated my audio jails from my video ones. I’ve even created a new jail with the latest version of Plex for my video library and as of yes it has not crashed. The old (now exclusively) video jail hasn’t crashed since either. It’s a bit of a hack but it doesn’t affect the end user since the clients obviously have different libraries in the sifferent “tabs” and it doesn’t matter if they’re on the same server or not. It’s seamless.
Interesting - I have been silently suffering with this for a couple of months and only recently have gotten tired enough to start looking harder.
Setup seems similar - Freenas 11.2 with 2 plex instances.
Main server is movie, tv, photo & music in an iocage jail, pkg install of plexmediaserver-plexpass, moved from warden jail after switching to 11.2 branch of freenas. This is really the only attempt at troubleshooting I have done.
Other server is an entirely separate plex.tv login in a warden jail that only the wife and I use - non-plexpass - only 1 video library
Both instances have been regularly updated using the PMS_Updater.sh script and both are currently running 1.14.1.5488.
Only the one with the audio library has been crashing, and I have just been using Monit to restart it if it goes offline. Sometimes will go days, other times 4 or 5 times a day. No real rhyme or reason that I can discern, but I’ll drop the audio library and see if it stabilizes at all - dont use it much, anyway.
PS - be careful with the current plexpass release 1.15.0.659 - PMS_Updater.sh still doesn’t see it in the .json on plex.tv, but if you download it yourself and pass it to the script, it seems like it installs, and that your media is available, but all of the settings pages are unavailable/non-functional. Happens in both my jails…
