Freezing

I have raspberry PI on usb power source always on, connected to yamaha AVR, i control it using logitech wireless kayboard and cec. Sometimes (abot one a week or os) when i start up avr on rPI inputet it is frozen and i need to unplug it and plug it again. I use orange 32GB microsdhc from samsung. I also have rapberryPI in black plastic case.

What do you think is causing it? What i do make it make it stop? Does it perform like this for everyone or does other experience months or so of uptime?

I’ve had very long periods of use without any crashing myself, though my role as member of the beta testers group for RasPlex makes it impossible to keep my RPi units running continuously for months on end. (I have to turn them off to plug in new betas. And we can have dozens of these between public releases.)

It’s always hard to be sure why such crashes occur, especially when they happen so sparsely.
It’s not easy to experiment with the causes when the expected ‘trigger delay’ is a week or so…
Two things you should definitely check are the PSU current rating and the SD card class.
Weak PSU or low SD card class are two of the most common causes for this kind of problem.

For an RPi1 model you need at least a 1 Ampere PSU, and 2 Ampere for an RPi2 model.
And all RPi models used for RasPlex should have an SD card of Class 10.

Also, bad PSU connection cables can give the same effects as a weak PSU.
(If the cable resistance is too high, then the voltage drops at the RPi end of it.)
So if you have a PSU with normal USB female connector it could help to try changing the USB-to-MicroUSB connection cable, in case the one now used has too high resistance.

Finally, about the case you mention, I assume it’s one of the cases properly designed for that RPi model and with some ventilation slits/holes in it, in which case it should not be a problem.
A DIY case should also be OK as long as it’s not a fully closed box without slits/holes
And of course it shouldn’t be too boxed in by other stuff, especially nothing on top (as hot air rises).

I did not change anything and got 0.7 running without issue until 0.7.1 update. So no complains. I guess that older releases based on older openElec stressed hardware too much in my case.

I made this post so others can find out that rasPlex is actually VERY stable.
