Fresh Server Install Can't Add Any Libraries

Server Version#: 1.31.0.6654

Hi,

I’m not exactly new to running Plex servers, been an adopter since LifeTime subs first became a thing.

Recently had an issue with a failing SSD, so had to do a fresh Win10 install on a new SSD along with a fresh Media Server install.

As the title suggests, this is going well at all, I can’t add and Libraries what so ever local or mapped drives. There doesn’t seem to be any logs created at the time of the issue, so can’t even pinpoint what is going on.

I’ve tried a number of tricks others seemed to have success with to no avail. I’ve installed with and without Run as Administrator, both with no success.

It’s an absolute horror show from Plex at this point and really not what my Lifetime Subscription should be getting.

Somebody help please!!

P.S. Had to setup a temp Server on my Mac Studio while my HTPC was getting fixed and have had 0 issues

You should never use “run as Admin” with Plex server. It can mess up the access permissions in your Plex data folder and thus create more weird behaviour.
At this point, the best I can recommend is to perform a thorough uninstallation according to https://support.plex.tv/articles/201941078-uninstall-plex-media-server/

Verify that Windows has classified the network connection as “Private”, not as “Public”.

  • Make sure that both your Plex server machine and the machine where the Plex web app is open have precise date and time set. Activate automatic time synchronization.
  • disable any 3rd-party web browser add-ins temporarily
  • investigate if your router is applying “DNS rebinding protection” and insert an exception from this protection for the domain name plex.direct (if possible)
    (background information: https://support.plex.tv/articles/206225077-how-to-use-secure-server-connections/ )
  • verify that your local network is indeed using an IP address range that is reserved for “private” use Private network - Wikipedia

If you are still unable to acces server settings or to create libraries, perform Method 2.2 from this post: You need to reclaim your server, but don't dare to touch the Windows Registry

Thanks @OttoKerner, while this wasn’t the fix somewhere along the line I got to search the Registry and noticed that it was pointing at settings a new server probably shouldn’t be.

Then I saw that I had renamed it the same as my device is. I’m not sure if that’s what the conflict was, I slightly changed the server name and restarted Plex and it’s happy again now.
