. I am a lifetime Plex pass member. I had a server years ago on an old computer, but I don’t have one anymore, and my library was even on another drive that I don’t have anymore. I want to start a brand-new, fresh server with a new library for my MEDIA, but every time I create or download the Plex media server and try to add my media, it keeps telling me I need to download the Plex media server. I have tried it several different ways, and yes, I’ve gone to the bottom, clicked on the media server down there, clicked on the open app, and then all of a sudden it just keeps refreshing over and over. I am to the point of giving up and just making this a wash, and maybe try something different, because I have put too much time into trying to figure this out. It shouldn’t be this difficult. I wish they had technical support, even if it was paid. I would pay for it; it would’ve saved me money by getting this over with. It makes no sense why they don’t have it, but so be it. This is my last attempt. If this doesn’t work, and I can’t find somebody to help me through this, I give up.

  1. Was Plex Media server already installed before on this machine, maybe using a different plex.tv user account?
  2. Are you doing this on a machine in your own, local and private home network?
  3. Are you sitting in front of this machine or are you working with a remote desktop solution?
  4. Have you tried the alternative method of claiming the server as described in New Claiming Requirement for Windows ?

I am having the same issue. My server restarted for Windows updates and now I am having the same issue. When i try to add/amend a library, the Language drop down is empty and I can’t view the folders. All icons are greyed out.

All of my media is visible in the Plex app but when I try to watch anything I get a ‘Unable to play. Skip?’ error message.

Did you find a resolution?
