Friends are unable to play shared music files

Same problem here. All friends having the same problems on their mobile devices. My mobile device works fine as it seems only to effect those you share with versus account users made in the server

I can affirm that the work-around suggested by BigWheel yesterday works. Setting the option to allow the friend to download shared music files allows the friend to play the music on a mobile using the PLEX App,

I have downloads enabled and not working for me. I hope Plex issues a fix for this real soon.

I can only report my experience. For me, when I enabled music downloads for the friend’s login in the settings for my server, my friend was able to play the music.

If you are the friend and the account holder won’t do that enable downloads, I guess the mobile APP wont work until PLEX issues an update with a fix. There is an option that is cumbersome but seems to work. That is to go to plex.tv on the browser on your phone. Sign-in. Then you can use the ā€œLaunchā€ button to open the web player. My friend was able to play music from the web player even before I enabled downloads. Navigation around the web player from a mobile device is awkward but does seem to work. the web app also works from a PC with a much better user interface.

Just received an update on the server and the app. Very disappointing the fix is not in this update. Any idea when the fix may be coming?

This fix is not working for me. I’ve tried restarting the NAS, reinstalling Plex, removing and re-adding back the shared user and disabling/re-enabling downloads. No luck at all. :confused:

This only happens with music files, everything else works fine.

Adding another report of a friend being unable to stream music from their iPad device. Shows a generic ā€˜error’ on the dashboard. As it’s repeatable already by an employee, skipping attaching logs.

Yeah, that work around won’t work for you. Due to the new Downloads feature, enabling Downloads only works if the server admin has a Plex Pass. Since you don’t have one, this won’t work for you.

Another work around is to set the music playback quality to 128 Kbps. This will force PMS to transcode any music above 128 Kbps and this transcoded version will play.

To be clear, this is a bug due to the new Downloads feature that crept into sharing music that was unexpected.

Same issue here, my friends are no longer able to access any shared music…
making the app totally useless until another update.

A fix is being worked on. Should see it in a future PMS update. I don’t know which one though.

Same issue I also faced. only solution which I found giving a download right to the other user. However, some of the user downloaded movies :). which blocked all of my internet traffic.

Having same issue I think with playing music on other accounts. On my wife’s phone She cant play music on her acct at all and sometimes it plays one song and then just skips all the next songs looking for something to play and shows an errors saying something went wrong. I log into my acct on her phone and I can play music with no errors. I do have her set to sharing everything.

having the same issue as well. only fix is allowing an account that shares the library to download the files. Tried the workaround of having the client select 128kbps on the music stream however the client still tries to stream in FLAC and would not be able to play files until I granted download access.
