There seems to be a problem with 7.1 track when playing these movie in hd audio. the xbox side speakers are not working When playing in 7.1. and the ps4 back speakers do not work when playing in 7.1 man that annoyes me abit one work but the other doesnt
I have the same problem. I use Makemkv, and then Handbrake. I keep my rips in mkv format. Handbrake says it will passthrough 7.1 audio. When I ripped my Star Wars 7 bluray, I cannot hear the rear channels from my 7.1 setup. When I put in my Bluray, sound is great, all channels.
This occurs on all my rips that have 7.1 audio. No sound comes from the rear speakers. I looked my files using Mediainfo, and it shows 8 channels(7.1) as being available.
So, I’m not sure if Plex is unable to reproduce 7.1 properly, or if handbrake is not working… as like creating the rear channels, but not putting anything in them.

I observed the same on PS4 (i.e., 5.1 audio from full-quality Plex streams), but if I changed the PS4 settings to output DTS via HDMI (not PCM), I was getting at least 6.1, perhaps 7.1 streaming from full-quality mkv files (ripped from my blu-rays). The same sound came from the plex server also if I had it downsample to 20mbps on the fly.
