Genre-based playlists - how?

How to create genre-based music playlist in premium music library? Let’s say I want to create ‘All Disco’ playlist. In iTunes I just create smart playlist, fill in ‘Disco’ in genre field and it works. In Plex/Web I only can create mood-based playlist or rating-based playlist (or import from iTunes). Is it possible to create genre-based playlist in Plex/web?

If your Plex system is using the iTunes music folders for its music, you can import playlists from iTunes - with some exceptions.

The logic for importing smart playlists is incomplete and Genre is one of the things that isn’t working. However, you can work around it.

In iTunes create a smart playlist with the music you want.
Copy all those songs to a static playlist in iTunes.
Import your iTunes playlists into Plex.

Note that if your iTunes database is not in the standard location, you will have to specify the path to the iTunes XML file in the server settings. You must wrap the location in double quotes for the iTunes playlist import to work. Note that after you kick off the import, Plex removes the double quotes.

There are various threads on this out there, search on ‘itunes playlist’.

Just change your view from Tracks to Albums or Artists, then you can see the genre filter (as genres are not saved on individual tracks).

There is a feature request to add genre filtering to Tracks view.

I’ve always thought it was odd that this filter was missing from Track view, since the the album is actually derived from id3 tags in the individual tracks. If you agree, please vote by clicking ‘Like’ on the first message in this thread.
