Looks like this has been an ongoing issue for many years.
I have let Music subscriptions expire, I want to focus on less music rather than more.
The choice I had reduced my listening time - so I am going back to the music I love and cherish in my iTunes/Plex library.
I would really like to access the Playlists I have created in iTunes over many years in Plex, but cannot figure out a way to do it.
Not getting anywhere I put the name of the playlist in the MP3 Grouping field.
I have been doing that for years, it allows me recreate my Playlists as Smart Playlists very quickly indeed.
I can’t find a way to access the Grouping field in Plex.
I can’t find a way in Plex to create Smart Playlists using that attribute either.
Is it just that Plex is optimised for Movies and TV Shows and I shouldn’t be using for music?
If anyone has any ideas I would really appreciate it.
Figured out a workaround … I think
I have put the Playlist Name in the Genre - not a great workaround, it has loads of flaws.
Frankly the Playlist name is more useful to me than some arbitrary genre added before.
I am hoping I can sort Plex on Genre - that will produce a list of songs that I can group select and then replicate the playlist in Plex
Then do it for one Playlist at a time…
Certainly quicker that one song at a time but in the hope that Plex as Music Player matures to a late 1980’s capability.
Look for the ‘Import from iTunes’ section in this Help page:
backfield
Thank you for responding.
Unfortunately the KA refers to an option that appears to be no longer available.
I have gone up and down the Advanced options of the Music Library and no Option ‘Import from iTunes’

Should be the very first option:

You have to do it while creating a new library. It’s not there when editing an existing one.
PERFECT!!!
Thank you, missed the bit where the option is only visible when creating a new library!!!
Many many thanks!!
Re-importing the library - for the 4th time today, 500GB of Music takes a while even when it is on an SSD!!
Thanks again
Tried it - didn’t work
worth a try
