Selecting MP3s with a Genre of Kickin

Hi,

Trying work my way around Plex not being able to import playlists and not working with iTunes.

So have made all the songs in a Playlist have a genre of Kickin. Wiped the Music Library, lost off at the existing Plex Playlists, and I now trying to get a list of all the songs with a Genre of Kickin.

Now I can’t find a filter for song Genres but I can for Artists and Albums…

Setting a filter for Album Genre = Kickin returns a lot of albums, in fact every song from those albums regardless of the genre setting for each file.

I have been going around for a few days trying to work out how to use the Plex Music library and more important import the playlists created over many years.

I suspect it is bridge too far for Plex.

Anyone got any ideas?

Plex doesn’t expose a per-track genre tag. To accomplish what you’ve described you’ll likely need to use the Moods tag:

There are many pre-existing moods from which you can choose, or you can add your own.

I have reverted to iTunes to manage music, enabled Music Match and purchasing a bund of Songs speakers that can use AirPlay II.

The AppleTVs can all access the music too so that solves the problem.

Really appreciate the Moods suggestion but really want to access my playlists I have been building for over 10 years.

I tried enabling the Use iTunes but it just doesn’t work.

In fact not only does Plex not show iTunes Playlists it doesn’t even show Playlists for Music in Plex !

I can see the list of Music Playlists to add to or create a Plex Playlist but can’t play the PlayLists as they are not showing up in Playlists.

Plex is GREAT for Movies and TV Shows so I will leave it there and not over tax it :slight_smile:

Found the Plex Amp app- now my favourite music player!!

Will cancel iTunes Music Match.

3 things that I wish were easier.

  1. PlexAmp playing direct to Sonos, rather than use AirPlay 2, which I still find unreliable and flakey.
  2. Making/Creating Playlists in Plex easier
  3. Support in Plex for Grouping MP3 Attribute or at least proper Genre Attribute support
