Works with MP3 and ALAC but with FLAC, the separator would be included in the genre tag. Say I want an artist to be under both progressive and power metal, I would use Progressive Metal; Power Metal. If the files were MP3, tags and genres would show as ‘Progressive Metal, Power Metal’ – two separate genres. If the files were FLAC, the genre would be under one genre called ‘Progressive Metal; Power Metal’.
Hmm, I get slightly different (but also wrong) results.
With my flac files tagged Celtic/Irish/Folk, and the Music library configured to get genres from embedded tags, Plex gives me this:
Essentially doing it the wrong way and the right way. Weird.
Does the same if I use semicolon or slash to separate the genres.

The id3 tag standard I think uses a “null” character to separate elements in a single tag. In mp3tag at least, you can enter a null with \\. I wonder if Plex understands null separators? I never checked.
Aha, this is good to know. I use Puddletag, and if I enter genres with double backslashes, it writes the tags as separate genre tags. Learned something new today!
