Hi folks,
After much reading and experimentation, I have some questions about how genres are handled in Plex.
I have a sizeable library. Folders are structured Artist → Album → Song. Previously I have modified MP3 metadata using iTunes or MP3tag. Prior to moving to Plex, this worked perfectly.
However, if I have understood correctly:
– Plex does not manage tags by individual track (I read this amongst one of MANY threads I read - but I’ve been unable to track it down again). All of the Genre tagging I’ve done is by track
– Plex tags albums separately from artists
I have already made all suggested settings to use embedded metadata but still I have genre issues. Take “Celtic Rock” for example. If I filter artists by “Celtic Rock” I get a portion of the bands/artists I’m expecting but I’m only able to get the others when filtering by that genre on the albums.
As far as I know, there is no ID3v* metadata for “Album Genre” or “Artist Genre” specifically. Just genre for each track… so making the changes in bulk via Mp3tag are impossible as far as I can tell. Instead, I need to change this for every album and/or artist individually from Plesk??
Maybe I’m missing something obvious here. Can someone shed some light on how I can get this straightened out?
