No matter what I do with refreshing metadata, changing sources, scanning my library, etc. the cached genres for my music do not update the list to what is saved in my metadata. I edited all of my genres to be title case and changed some other things like EDM instead of Edm, etc., but none of these changes populate in Plex and I don’t know why.
Bump to keep the thread alive.
Is your Music library set to Prefer local metadata
and the Genre setting set to Embedded Tags
?
Could you walk through a genre change, refresh your metadata, and provide your pms logs?
Genres are created in the database as a record when the first track containing that genre is added.
After that, the name of the genre is never updated, because it is shared by many tracks/albums/artists. So changing the spelling will probably have no effect unless you practically Plex Dance all tracks, albums, and artists which have the genre assigned to them.
The Plex Dance might even require you to wait up to a week before you can re-add the items, because the genre table is only purged once a week during automatic server maintenance.
The Plex Dance would delete my history and stuff though wouldn’t it? I don’t want to wipe all that data. Is there a reason the genres can’t be refreshed or is it just not implemented yet? I’d think a metadata scan should be able to read the genres in the tags and save the updates. Basically, the flow I’m thinking of would be like:
- Scan Library Files/Refresh Metadata
- New genres added to song listing
- Wait for maintenance for clean up of genres that no longer have references
and yes, those things are all set
