Just found out today that there is something wrong. But it can’t be too long so maybe it is from the latest update I installed a few days ago.
I happened to notice today that when going by genre to sift through my music files there was just like 1% of the content to be expected. I quickly checked via Webbrowser and indeed a lot of music files have either a wrong or more often no genre attached anymore. So they must have lost it as I am very thorough about that and it used to be 100% accurate.
When looking at the metadata of some files, all the information is still there as I maintain tags on file level and Plex used to grab it from there. Unfortunatley triggering Refresh metadata on any level (track, album, artist) does nothing. Adding new files (which are detected just fine) or doing a refresh for existing ones doesn’t make a difference reg. the result: Empty genre stays empty alsthough all the information is there. I haven’t messed with any settings and checked that they should be ok (grabbing local information with the scanner).
Here is an example of a track with metadata in MP3tags but missing in Plex. Funny enough when I set the genre manually (and don’t lock it) it is overwritten with an empty string when doing a refresh metadata. To me there seems to be something going wrong. Having 50K plus songs without working genre currently sucks. here are some screenies:
I couldn’t find anything of interest in the the logs (using Webtools, no debug switched on yet) but in case logs are needed I can still provide them. I also could’t find a thread that reports this problem.
So maybe I am the first … trying debug level now and investigate some more … Logs attached. There are some warnings and errors in there. Plex Media Server Logs_2021-08-07_19-48-16.zip (4.2 MB)
