Plex really is a joke.
For two hours I have been trying to add media without any joy.
Click on “Your Media” and you geta page asking you to “Get Plex Media Server”.
I have already done this…about 8 sodding times !!!
I have looked at various web pages telling me how to add media. None of it of any help.
Where is the option to “Add media”
Ive had this issue before then suddenly it worked when i hadnt done anything different.
And now the same issue once again
plex has 2 main components, the plex client (the player which could be an app or web page), and the server (which runs in the background on a pc/mac/linux).
to help, you must confirm which component you have actually installed.
there are some installation quick start info @
if you have installed the SERVER, on the pc/mac you are using directly, then you should simply be able to open a web browser and go to @ Plex Web and follow the setup wizard.
alternatively you can access the ip directly like @ http://192.168.x.x:32400/web or http://127.0.0.1:32400/web
do note, you cannot setup a plex server that is not on the same local subnet
to add media, you must add or edit a library, click the + to add a new library, choose a type, then specify the path(s).
you may need to click more to expose the server
click the +
choose a type, change the name/language if you desire, click next, choose the folders/paths, click add library and let it scan.
you can always edit an existing library to change paths or advanced options later.
to edit a library, choose the 3 dots next to an existing library, edit it, then add/change/remove the paths as needed.
First of all thank you for the detailed reply.
Unfortunately all of that is useless to me.
I click on more and nothing is offered bar “Your media”. When i click on that i get a page telling me to GET PLEX MEDIA SERVER
did you try using the ip directly?
if you installed plex SERVER on the same computer you are using for browser, just click http://127.0.0.1:32400/web
assuming you are using windows, you should have an icon down in the corner
you can also right click this icon to open the browser to the ip
then you should be asked to sign in the server, use the same account as your forum login here
then it should take you to the screens I posted earlier where you can add/edit a library to add the media paths.
edit: it looks like you have TWO different plex accounts, make sure you pick ONE and use the SAME one for both the server and web.
there are 2 different sign ins, for you to setup the server, the web browser must be signed into the same one.
for the web, top right icon
as for the server, you can sign in/out in the settings from the aforementioned plex web or ip urls
