I’ve downloaded plex media server and when I opened it to plex and go to add media it still says “Add your media to Plex, Get Plex Media Server”

what should I do?

Make sure to complete the setup by opening your newly installed Plex Media Server through its local IP address.

  • if you’re on the same machine… open http://127.0.0.1:32400/web in your browser
  • if the server is on a different machine inside your home network… open http://[PMS IP address]:32400/web in your browser
  • if your server is installed in a different network/subnet you’ll need to establish a local connection first

This will walk you through the setup where you can name your server, link it to your Plex account and create your first libraries (which you can also create/change later). Once your server is setup and linked to your Plex account you’ll also be able to access it from other Plex apps (e.g. using the hosted version of Plex Web → https://app.plex.tv/desktop).

You might want to start with sharing some more details.
“it’s not working” is very thin for a halfway decent troubleshooting.

Are you on the same machine / inside the same network when trying to access your server?
Did you already have another instance of Plex Media Server installed at some earlier point of time – maybe one already connected with a different Plex account?
When you open the given URL… are you still getting the exact same message or are you getting a few steps further?

So I downloaded it and when I finished everything else, I booted up my plex and I takes to the the normal home menu and I clicked on the + sign (aka add media) it still says “Add your media to Plex, Get Plex Media Server” despite me already having the server

And you’re getting that while accessing the server through the bundled version of Plex Web (http://127.0.0.1:32400/web while being on the same Mac)?

In case you previously had a Plex Media Server installed on that machine… try this procedure to erase some potential leftovers which could cause the server to think you’re not authorized to see the actual server.

I’ve tried that and everything else to no sucess.
