Getting 404 Not Found when starting Plex (latest version)

Does anyone know why im getting “404 Not Found” error message when starting Plex with the latest version? I did not have this problem until i updated to the latest version. I also tried to uninstall plex and install it again without any success. The odd part is that when i reboot my computer it sometimes works, and sometimes it doesnt work.

This is really annoying as i need to rely on my Plex server to me online

Roll back to version 1.5.5 pal… After this version every release has had one fault or another & the plex peeps don’t answer your questions…Stay on 1.5.5 & all is well with all faults.

Merry Christmas

Do you know were i can download the 1.5.5 version? It was before my time so i dont have it in the plex “update” folder

Do not roll back to 1.5.5, that is not good advice.

What runs your Plex Server (NAS, PC, Shield TV, etc)? How did you install the update? What version did you install? Did you try to access the Plex Server using the IP address of the device instead of the localhost address?

It runs on a Windows 7 PC. i first installed it via the update button on plex, then i got tons of 404 errors and reinstalled the latest version of plex via the exe file. Got the same 404 messages on that installation too.

Is the Plex Server icon showing up in your task bar?

Yes it is. The 404 error message shows when i double click on the plex icon in the task bar

Open a web browser and enter the IP of your computer instead of doing that.

For example, if the IP of the computer is 192.168.1.10, use http://192.168.1.10:32400

OK i will try that the next time it happens. Thx

Im saying this because 1.5.5 is steady…i also today had the same problem as this man…Server on/plex running but not connectable via browser or any other device…if any problem occurs then if i roll back to 1.5.5 no problems occur…take advice or leave it…Giggity Goo.

So i tried this and it doesnt help either, i couldnt add either my computer IP or my public IP. The only thing that helps is a reboot.

Any idea whats causing this and how to solve it?

Right click Plex Server icon in System Tray > Exit | Restart Plex Media Server.

Thank you. That worked perfectly!

Having the same issue after each update. Only solution is reboot the ‘server’. I’m having it installed on a Win 10 Pro machine. Looks like one of the services fails to start after de upgrade. Manually starting the Plex services doesn’t solve it as well… Just a quick reboot is enough though.

Cheers buddy - that worked for me. All back to normal.

Glad it helped!
