404 Not Found error Opening PLEX Media Server from task tray

My server log file in C:\Users\userID\AppData\Local\Plex Media Server\Logs show all log files was last modified 3 months ago. This is way before this problem cropped up.

My problem is with opening the Plex Media Server by right clicking on the PLEX icon in the task tray and selecting Open Plex or Check for update. This opens the browser to http://127.0.0.1:32400/web/index.html which returns a 404 Not Found error. I replaced the IP address with the local network’s IP address of the PC this is running on and got the same error.
The server seems to be running, and I can access from my iPhone’s PLEX app or the PLEX Player app from another PC and play contents from my library. This is a new problem that cropped up recently. No sure if something got updated. Would appreciate any suggestions on how to fix this.

Are you by chance running the plex server on a different device? Lets grab a copy of your server logs (from the web UI) and lets see what is going on.

No, the server is running on the same device. I logged in to plex.tv and launched the Web UI by hitting Open PLEX. Here is the downloaded log zip from Troublshooting.

Exact same problem, so i can’t edit my library anymore, not even from the plex web app. Before this started happening, that worked,but not anymore now.

Your logs show exactly what I thought they would.

"Dec 03, 2024 00:35:12.903 [20132] WARN - Warning: ex: boost::filesystem::last_write_time: The system cannot find the file specified [system:2]: “C:\Program Files\Plex\Plex Media Server\Resources\Plug-ins-c6bbc1b53”, couldn’t check file: “C:\Program Files\Plex\Plex Media Server\Resources\Plug-ins-c6bbc1b53"”

Basically, when you update plex you have a greater than 90% chance that the upgrade process moves the dir called “Plug-ins-XXXXXX” out of the “Recources” dir, to the “Plex Media Server” dir…but doesn’t move it back to it’s home for some reason.

When this happens, Plex will work on the various players, but PlexWeb will fail every time.

Just look for “Plug-ins-XXXXX” in the “Plex Media Server” dir, and move it back into the “Resources” folder and it fixes the problem.

This happens to me 100% of the time on one server, and ~every other time on 3 other servers.

This has been an issue (for me) since Summer '24 and why Plex hasn’t fixed it yet is beyond me. I often wonder if they are even aware of the issue. I actually came here today to see if there was any discussion on a fix and found this thread.

Beta or Stable release, this is an issue with the installer
