Getting item details to stay changed

Server Version#: 1.10.0.1208-daa6b641

I am finding that item details that Plex has obtained, but which perhaps have the odd error (such as capitalisation that I didn’t use), won’t always stay changed when I change them to what I want them to be. An example is the film ‘Metropolis’, which Plex has decided should be ‘METROPOLIS’.

I am choosing the pencil icon, then ‘General’. The padlock icon is highlighted when I change a field; I have been clicking (or alternatively not clicking) on the padlock to fix’ the change, but what is the correct procedure? Is it a problem with naming on my NAS? On there, this particular file is named ‘Metropolis (1927).m4v’.

Thanks!

Demote Local Media Assets:

Plex is looking at the bogus Title Field in that M4V file and preferring it over what should be one of these:

I’m gonna guess, but if you don’t want Plex to guess you might want to use a valid filename - like this one:

A Movie Library/
.......Metropolis (1927)/
........Metropolis (1927).m4v

Do both of those things - should fix it.

The field is locked when the padlock is orange. There have been issues in the past where Plex would not respect the lock. I haven’t encountered that problem in a while, so I thought it may have been fixed, but if the title is changing while the lock is orange, it may still be a problem.

I think the embedded Title keeps blowing the locks - or it’s simply unmatched - and if either of those conditions are met - it’s a crap shoot. Those locks do nothing.

If matched and no embedded data -the locks do prevent ‘updates’ from changing things - from what I can tell.

Thank you for your help. Hopefully that will help sorting it out.
