Remove movie's year from screen view?

In both Plex’s web and TV app, the year that a film was released is included in the description under its poster image i.e. the web lists name, year and time lapsed since file was added to the library, whilst the tv just lists the name and year.

But I already label my files in the formal “Name (Year)” and the subsequent duplication of data looks rather yucky. Is it possible to only display the file name?

The (year) after the title in parentheses is not supposed to be there.
I assume it is read from your files’ embedded ‘title’ metatag.

Go to

  • Settings - Server - Agents - Shows - TheTVDB

In there, grab the line ‘Local Media Assets’ with your mouse and drag it downwards, so it ends up being at the bottom of the stack of active agents.
Repeat the same under

  • Settings - Server - Agents - Shows - TheMovieDatabase
  • Settings - Server - Agents - Movies - Plex Movie
  • Settings - Server - Agents - Movies - TheMovieDatabase

Afterwards, ‘Refresh Metadata’.

Thanks for the reply…but I didn’t explain myself properly…

I have changed the metadata on the file myself in the format “Name (Year)” and have purposely ordered agents such that LMA comes first so that my movie titles are displayed i.e. “Rio (2011)”, “Safe House (2012)” and “Savages (2012)”. “Name (Year)” is how I wish the titles to appear. But then Plex adds underneath the title the release year and below that how long ago the file was added to the library.

Hence I’m hoping that there is an option to remove Plex’s information (the year and timestamp) from view. i.e. “2011…3 days ago”, “2012…3 days ago” and “2012…3 days ago”. Is this possible?

In that case you’ll see the second year - Plex puts that in there so you don’t have to. It’s WAAAAAAYYYYYY easier for you to change your habits than for Plex to re-design the entire system to cater to your habits (which are, in fact unnecessary and, as you can clearly see have unintended side effects).

Otto provided a correct answer and here’s another one - don’t embed Titles in your MP4s if you don’t want weird stuff to happen. A properly named file with ZERO metadata will display properly when matched. Suggest you try that route.

You are more than welcome, however to open a Feature Request for your ‘Feature’. Until they leap on that and make it happen - best stick to the suggestions above. Also, in the meantime, you can continue to embed Titles in your files, but perform the LMA Hack so they won’t mess up - until Plex “Fixes” your problem.

Plex (and you, apparently) like it in the Red.
I like it in the Green - as does most everyone else. If there’s a bogus Title Field it doesn’t have top priority, in fact it has no priority - just the way I like it.

Thanks for your reply…I suspected I’d have to change the way I edit the metadata on my files but I thought it was worth checking first that I wasn’t missing a view option that I could toggle on/off because I have literally 100s and 100s of files that I’ll otherwise need to change!

As Otto suggested first: Move LMA down to the bottom of the stack of active agents and don’t worry about it. Just don’t add MORE Title Fields in future.
