Gigabit Lan vs installed drives query

Hi all.

I currently use a Synology NAS as my PMS, but I have found it struggling with transcoding (no surprise there). As a test I installed PMS on my PC and pulled the files from the NAS. This produced the desired effect, and a speed boost, but I am considering doing away with the NAS altogether and popping the drives into the PC to keep it all in one place. My question is, will I notice a difference in performance if the files are stored physically on the PC (on a 3TB WD Red drive) or pulled from the NAS over a gigabit LAN?

Cheers,

Mark

Not for regular ‘playback’ use of Plex.

You may notice a difference when adding new media or when preparing files (remuxing/extracting tracks etc.)

Thanks for the quick response.
