Where to hold Media Files (PC HDD or Synology NAS)

Hi, I am running the Plex server on my PC as it’s a better spec than my Synology DS118 NAS.
I have my media on both the NAS and a secondary PC HDD.
Should I use my NAS media or PC HDD media through the Plex server for better performance?

Thanks Jeff

This question will come down to your network performance/capacity. If your media is stored on the NAS, the PC’s connection needs to read it and send it over its own connection to the router – in some environments this can be a problem.

Just give it a try… you can easily connect media from both drives to your libraries.
I have a bunch of higher-bitrate files and music stored on a local drive while all my regular files are on a NAS. This way the high-bitrate ones won’t clog the network and the music files can be streamed without waiting for the Syno to spin up. The Syno and my PMS are directly connected to my router using a Gigabit connection and I haven’t had any issues in ages.

Thanks for the info. Good idea to use the PC HDD for my bigger movie files.
