GitHub PlexExternalPlayer (Kayomani) - Is Anyone Using It?

love the idea of being able to have plex launch an external player (specifically a madvr loaded player), and came across the following github offering that claims to be able to do it using plex’s web browser app:

per the instructions, i was able to easily add the tampermonley add-on to my browser, and once completed i was able to easily load the greasyfork script into the tampermonkey add-on… but that’s as far as i was able to get, i wasn’t able to complete step 3 “Install the agent using the installer from the releases page above.”.

does anyone here have this working? does it even still work given how old it is? any help would be appreciated!

hmmm…

It was dead.
Plex MPV Shim dose the same thing with a different method which I consider better.

thank you very much for your reply…

i checked out the link but it seems that the shim can only be used with mpv (or an mpv based player), i.e. no madvr, is that correct? if so, what is the purpose of the shim given plex already uses mpv, and if you’re not happy with the mpv version plex uses you can simply replace the mpv-1.dll with a newer version from the mpv developers.

re the plexexternalplayer (kayomani), did you ever use it? if so did it work? i see that it hasn’t seen action in years, i.e. it’s dead, but does it still work?

thanks again!

I never used PlexExternalPlayer, sorry. You can have a try.
Even if an external player can be used, it would never sync the status of playback to PMS.

I didn’t know that mpv-1.dll can be replaced. Thank you for telling me that.
