Its honestly so surprising that plex still does not allow using a player of choice at least for local files on windows.
I love Plex’s interface but Alternate players are far better in most ways such as any player with K-Lite media pack. Far better video, audio and features.
And yet even with the Windows Desktop app Plex media player or Plex HTPC you have no open with external player option.
Not a terribly difficult thing to implement. Either implement it in the server version witch I would prefer so I don’t have to run two programs. Or where it makes most sense in the windows program and have the server send over the folder locations and have the Program launch the files from their location.
I feel like this as well as Windows programs not having a basic local files ‘server’ built in has lost a lot of users over the years.
I just think this is so easily implemented and to enthusiasts is essential and has made plex unusable to many HTPC users.
I don’t see what there’s a reason someone can’t write an external player to use Plex. There are third party music players that do so already, like Shuttle (for Android).
