Plex owners can force content onto their users’ homepage.
If a user pins a library that is shared with them to the sidebar (for easy access), the owner can now add/remove whichever collection they want as a recommended row of content onto the user’s homepage. (Manage - Libraries - Movies - “Friend’s Home” checkbox). In this same way, the owner can also remove all recommendations, leaving the user’s homepage quite empty.
Why is the server owner the one who is in control here?
-
Please make it so that all of the owner’s recommendations are actually “suggested channels” that can be added or removed by the users. In this way, the “Friend’s Home” setting can be a way to share your favorite collections, instead of forcing it upon your users.
-
Add the ability to create new Home Channels.
These can be based on an existing collection, or an (advanced) filter.
I am OK with the server owner being in total control of the “Recommended” tab inside their library, but their control should end where my “Home” begins.
You can’t see content of multiple sources at the same time.
If two or more server owners share their movies with each other, they have no way of combining all content and seeing it in one place.
- Add the ability to create new Home Channels with content from multiple sources (my Plex libraries, external Plex libraries, streaming services…)
“Sam recommends these movies”, “Bob’s movies that are higher bitrate than mine”, “Date Night with Jess”, “Streaming Service Originals”, …
An example of how this can be implemented are Android TV’s channels, where each app (source) can expose channels that the user can add to the homepage.
