Global app settings missing?

In the past, if I wanted to enable automatic subtitles to be selected for all media, I would go to https://plex.tv/users/profile and enable the settings on my account.

Now, I try to go to that page and it’s a 404. The only thing the settings for my “account” does is launch the web app.

I can see that there are similar options in the account settings of the plex web app, but I can say for certain that these automatic subtitle settings do not work. They aren’t automatically syncing selecting subtitles for anything even when “auto select subtitle mode” is selected to always enabled (and the languages are all English). I know for certain the videos I have in my library have English subtitles.

The proper location is https://app.plex.tv/desktop/#!/settings/account

Yes, they do work.
Have you verified that the checkbox “Automatically select audio and subtitle tracks” is ticked? It has to be.

Also, the automatic selection does only work as long as you haven’t touched the subtitle and audio stream selector manually on this video before.

I just went through with a friend (because I set these settings years ago so they work for my profile).

His settings look like this

Every time he goes to a video (we tried many different videos he’s never opened before, I’m aware it saves the subtitle settings if he’s mucked with them before), it shows that the subtitles are off.

Even though the subtitles for the video are 100% in english

This is the XML of this video example taken from my account (my friend is not trying anymore).

We were also experiencing issues because we were trying to get this to work on the mobile app, but it’s not selecting subtitles automatically on the mobile app at all either (the real reason I’m trying to get this working, he needs subtitles for syncing videos for offline viewing, but he wants to be able to download an entire season and not manually select subtitles for each video.)

You need to pick a video where the subtitle selector hasn’t been touched by this user before.

Can you try with “subtitle select mode” set to “Shown with foreign audio”?

We attempted the foreign audio setting as well, it made no difference.

We definitely attempted to use this on videos he’s never touched before. None of them were selecting subtitles.

And you are positive that you were logged in as this user when you made the language settings?

Is this a user account which has been created only recently?

We are certain he was signed into his account.

His account was created about a year ago.

@OttoKerner

Ok, I have no idea why this setting would affect this, but my friend filled out the “Username” section in the account settings (he had never filled it out before) and it suddenly started working for him. He is currently testing to verify the syncs will add the subtitles for mobile download

During this test, is the user located remotely or is he in the same local network?

He’s remote

Interesting detail about the “username”!
Please let me know about the outcome of your tests.

It seems to be working for him now. Not sure how it was related, but none of the subtitle settings went into effect until he updated his Username setting.

That is quite curious. I will forward it to the developers.
Glad you got it working!
