Global Subtitle Setting

I would like a setting as an admin that I can set a specific subtitle setting for those non-English languages spoken in my videos. Being able to set this so when my friends and family go to watch the same show on their accounts, they don’t have to turn on the subtitles or learn that the title has foreign language spoken the have to set it themselves manually. I make the subtitle a global setting on that title and it is activated for them. This could apply to any language really but having the ability to set this would be key.

This would not prevent anyone from then changing this setting for their profile/account, but initially have them enabled. This is ideal where the foreign audio is not burned into the video.

What if someone doesn’t want subtitles.

This is settable by the users themselves. Account Audio/Subtitle Language Settings | Plex Support

Good point, Then they can turn off subtitles on their device (Roku for example) or disable them. But initially they would be enabled where globally set. Forgot to mention that in the original post so I added it.

I am aware that anyone can add subtitles themselves. I just find it a little annoying that I get into a show that is engaging then have to pause for a few seconds to set the subtitle to then resume. I would just like the option for the convenience and if my family complains then not do it.

Since there is already an option for users to set this themselves, I don’t think Plex would add a global default like what you are asking for, but we’ll see if others think this may be useful.

Thanks for the input, I’m hoping that I’m not the only one with this thought.

In addition to MovieFan.Plex‘s point about this being an account setting (not a device option), there’s already an existing suggestion asking to set the audio preferences for your own managed users („on behalf of“). I suggest you comment/vote in that thread in order to avoid distracting/dispersing votes. That’s unless I’m completely missing a unique point from your suggestion.

Thanks for the reference. I did comment and vote on it. His includes audio for global which makes sense. I don’t do multi language files, too much wasted data I’ll never use, but I can see value in it.
